The company

A Drumheller crew for houses and businesses.

The finish is the part you see. The prep is the part you live with.

PowerPlay Paint is a residential and commercial painting company based in Drumheller. We work through town and out along the valley — Newcastle, Nacmine, Wayne, East Coulee, Rosebud, and the farms between.

This is a dry valley, so paint here fails from sun, dust, and temperature more often than from rain. South walls bleach. Coulee dust works into every seam. A chinook can swing the day hard enough to show every shortcut in the caulking. We plan for that.

We’re set up for occupied homes and for businesses that have to open in the morning. You get a written estimate, a clear start date, and a walkthrough at the end.

Services

What we paint, and what we won’t rush.

Interior, exterior, and commercial work. If a job needs a carpenter or a roofer before it needs a brush, we’ll say so before we price it.

01

Interiors

Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and the rooms between. Low-odour finishes when someone has to sleep in the house that night.

02

Exteriors

Siding, stucco, soffits, fascia, doors, and window trim. Scheduled around the weather, not against it.

03

Commercial

Offices, storefronts, suites, and common areas. Timed so a business can open, including evenings when that’s the only sensible hour.

04

Cabinets and doors

Enamel on kitchens and millwork. Hardware labelled, edges cut in, and dry time built into the schedule so nothing is tacky when you need it.

05

Decks, fences, outbuildings

Stain and paint for wood in full sun and yard dust. If a board should be repaired before it’s coloured, we’ll say that first.

06

Colour

Oversized samples, looked at on your wall in the morning and again late day. Valley light runs warm. A chip that looks right in a store can turn orange by four.

Residential

Rooms people actually live in.

Most of the work is houses — bungalows in Newcastle, split-levels up the hill, and older places in the valley that have been painted a dozen times already. We go room by room when you’re living there, and we’ll take a whole main floor when you can clear out.

  • Walls, ceilings, trim, and doors
  • Bedrooms, kitchens, and basements
  • Rentals between tenants
  • Low-odour finishes where you need to sleep
  • Colour samples checked in your own light

Commercial

Shops and suites, still open on time.

A storefront on Centre Street and a back office up the highway get the same standard: a written scope, one person in charge on site, and a finish that looks right when the door opens. If you can’t close, we work the hours that let you stay open.

  • Storefronts, bulkheads, and entries
  • Offices, clinics, and reception rooms
  • Suites turned over between tenants
  • Cafés and small restaurants
  • Evening work when daytime isn’t possible

The year

The valley has a painting calendar. We follow it.

Summers here run hot and dry. Winters earn the name. A finish that ignores either one won’t last.

  • Spring

Exteriors start when nights stay warm enough for the product. Dust is already in the air. We wash before we coat.

  • Summer

The long season for siding, stucco, and decks. We watch south walls. Paint in full badlands sun can skin over before it levels.

  • Fall

The last reliable exteriors, then interiors as the windows close. A good time for cabinets and trim.

  • Winter

Interiors, doors, and commercial work. Exteriors wait. A product that needs 10°C does not care that the forecast looks hopeful.

How a job goes

Four steps, none of them optional.

  1. 01

    Walk the job

We look at the place, the surface, and what you want it to feel like. You get a written estimate, and a straight answer if something should be repaired before it’s painted.

  2. 02

    Prep

Wash, scrape, sand, fill, caulk, prime. This is the part that decides how the colour looks in year three. We don’t skip it to make a Friday.

  3. 03

    Paint

Even coats and clean lines. The product has to match the room or the weather: dry time, UV, and how much abuse the surface actually takes.

  4. 04

    Walk it with you

We look at the work in the light you’ll live with. Touch-ups happen before we call it done, not after you’ve had to chase us.

A working palette

Colours that belong in this light.

Named for the valley, not a fan deck. Pick one to see it flat. On a real wall we’ll sample it in your room before anyone opens a can.

Coulee Cream

A quiet neutral for ceilings, trim, and whole-house walls. It stays calm when afternoon light in the valley turns gold.

Sample projects

Colour studies, standing in for photographs.

These are compositions of finishes we specify, not photos of completed jobs. Real walls can replace them as the work is done.

Sample · Interior

Main-floor repaint

Newcastle bungalow. Coulee cream walls, ironstone baseboards, wheat floors left as they are.

Sample · Exterior

Door, trim, and fascia

Nacmine house. Hoodoo door, cream fascia, river-bottom foundation.

Sample · Commercial

Café walls

Downtown. Wheat above the rail, river bottom below, cream chair rail between.

Sample · Cabinets

Sprayed kitchen

Midland. River-bottom enamel on the doors, wheat on the counter wall left alone.

Sample · Storefront

Main-street retail

Centre Street. Hoodoo band above the glass, cream bulkhead, sage door.

Sample · Outbuilding

South-facing wood

Acreage near Rosebud. Stain in a few related browns, not one flat coat pretending the boards match.

Service area

Drumheller and the country around it.

We live with the same wind and the same light. Travel beyond town is part of the estimate, not a surprise on the invoice. If you’re farther out, ask — we’ll say whether the drive makes sense.

Sample comments

The kind of note we want a client to be able to say.

They treated the prep like it was the actual job. The hallway trim is the straightest it has been since the house was new.
Marlene · Homeowner, Newcastle
We painted the shop over two evenings and opened the next morning. The bulkhead finally looks finished, and the place was left clean.
Chris · Shop owner, downtown Drumheller
They were honest about what the south-facing wood could take. The stain looks like it belongs on the place, which is what we asked for.

Before the first coat

So the first day is simple.

What we take on

  • Protecting floors, furniture, and finished surfaces
  • Moving light pieces and putting them back
  • Filling nail holes, small cracks, and failed caulk
  • Sanding and priming so the colour sits evenly
  • Removing and reinstalling outlet and switch covers
  • A final walkthrough in daylight

What helps before we arrive

  • Colours chosen before the start date, or time booked with us to choose them
  • Valuables and fragile things taken off the walls we’re painting
  • Water and a working outlet we can reach
  • Pets kept out of the work area
  • A heads-up about stains, leaks, or repairs we should not paint over
  • A plan to give a room a few hours to dry, if you can

Questions

Before you write.

Do you take both houses and businesses?

Yes. Residential and commercial, interior and exterior. If a job sits outside what we do well — structural repairs, roofs, or new drywall through a whole building — we’ll say so before you spend time on an estimate.

How do estimates work?

We walk the site, look at the surfaces, and send a written price. There’s no obligation to go ahead. Travel beyond town is included in that conversation, not added after you’ve said yes.

Can you work while we’re home, or while the shop is open?

Yes. We’ll agree on rooms, hours, and what gets covered. For a shop, evening shifts are often the way to stay open in the morning.

What about winter exteriors?

We don’t force them. If the temperature or the surface is outside what the product allows, the job moves. Interior work runs all winter.

How far do you travel?

Through Drumheller and the communities in the valley, and out into Kneehill, Starland, and Wheatland counties — Rosebud, Carbon, Morrin, Hanna, and the farms between. Farther than that, ask. We’ll tell you straight.

What about older homes?

Drumheller has houses from the coal years forward. We don’t grind through unknown old paint. If a surface needs lead-safe handling, we pause and talk about it before anyone sands.

Are you insured?

Liability insurance and WCB coverage, with a certificate available before work starts.
